Tension Homework
In the first paragraph the writer uses strongly worded feelings.   This is a good way to show tension as it gives the reader a sense of emotion and sorrow for ‘Joe Simpson’ as he writes “an awful weariness washed through me” and “I wanted with all my heart for it to be over.”

The fears and thoughts that Joe Simpson displays in his time of anguish increases the tension of the read as it demonstrates the horrible decision between life and death whilst hanging off the edge of a 50 foot cliff.  “Weariness” and “Pity” are examples of his emotions.

The way the passage ends makes you indulged in the plot and makes you want to carry on reading because of the dramatic ending.  “I fell silently, endlessly into nothingness, as if dreaming of falling.”  This makes the reader more excited and wondering what happens to the main character.
